Ysgol Gymraeg Bronllwyn
Nicola Gould, the Head Teacher of Ysgol Gynradd Cymraeg Bronllwyn, contacted Digital Communities Wales as she was interested in developing some digital inclusion activities with the school computer club. The DCW adviser suggested running the Digital Heroes project.
To get things started, children attending the computer club received Digital Heroes training. They then took part in a planning session and chose a number of topics which they felt could be useful to help parents, grandparents and local community members to use the internet, including Safe Passwords, Google, YouTube and Skype.
The children spent several weeks practicing how to use the various apps with their ICT teacher Michaela Townsend, who runs the computer club.
An event was then arranged where the children could showcase the chosen topics. They invited their families into the school, and used iPads to help them use apps and websites and choose safe passwords. The children also gave a Skype demonstration.
The children plan to continue supporting family and local community members on an on-going basis.
