Like Christmas, it seems to come around quicker every year but yes indeed, it’s almost time for Get Online Week 2015!

Taking place October 12-18, the UK’s biggest digital inclusion campaign will see hundreds of organisations hold thousands of events that reach tens of thousands of people who are still not making the most of the internet.

But when we live in such a digital world and those who aren’t online are harder to reach (although there are still more than 10 million of them in the UK), how do we persuade them that this is the year to give it a go?

Well, needless to say, lots of hard work and research has gone into finding the right message for our ninth annual Get Online campaign (the first few were just Get Online Days!).

Here at Tinder Foundation we’re all clear on the potential of the internet to change lives – change the world even – but what we found was that these messages weren’t going to appeal to people who had got to 2015 without giving the internet a go. They didn’t need to change their life thank you very much! What the staff and tutors from UK online centres network told us was that it’s the little things that make a difference.

Things like not having to rush to the bank on your lunch hour because you can transfer money or pay a bill on your phone. Things like saving a fortune on phone bills because you can speak to relatives abroad on Skype. And things like not having to drag yourself to the doctors or chemist when you’re under the weather because you can check symptoms, make appointments and order repeat prescriptions online.

Once we understood that, it wasn’t long before we got to our Get Online Week 2015 slogan and call to action – Make life easier online!

From there, it was just a matter of finding the real Learn My Way users who had already made their life easier online and could inspire others to do the same by appearing on campaign posters and leaflets…

I’m not going to spoil too much about these Faces of Get Online Week here as we’ll be shouting about them and telling their stories far and wide in the immediate build up the campaign, but we think they’re the perfect people to sum up the spirit of Get Online Week and making life easier online.

Do keep an eye on our social media channels for more info soon, and getonlineweek.com too, where you can register to hold a Get Online Week event and find much more info about the campaign.
