Digital focus for Adult Learners’ Week
Adult Learners’ Week (19 – 25 June 2017) is an annual campaign which celebrates and promotes adult learning opportunities as part of the Festival of Learning.
Now in over 55 countries worldwide, its intention in Wales is to signpost the huge variety of courses available to the adult learner, and to prompt adults across the country into returning to learning.
Each year, over 10,000 adults in Wales participate in Adult Learners’ Week activities. This is achieved by working with a host of private, public and voluntary sector organisations on the promotion of free taster events, local outreach activities and short courses. There will be lots of ‘have a go’ and taster sessions, open days and other learning activities taking place across Wales, including some with a digital theme.
With the focus of Digital Communities Wales being on digital learning and skills, we’ll be promoting any activities or events that we’re aware of, while looking at the views of people and organisations that have benefited from our support as they go on to provide adult learning opportunities of their own.
Elsewhere this week, we’re running training in Carmarthen on using digital health and wellbeing tools in community settings. Our trainer Hannah is working with County Councillors in Torfaen, so they can help others develop digital skills. Also, our training manager Delyth is working with JCP work placement volunteers, so they can run digital learning sessions in a library.
We’ll also be hosting a Twitter chat on the wider role of adult learning and digital skills. Join us between 12.30-1.30pm on Tuesday 20th June. Follow us on @DC_Wales and use the hashtag #dcwtweetchat.
If you’re tweeting about Adult Learners’ Week, don’t forget to use the hashtag #lovetolearn.
