Digital Communities

Penley Rainbow Centre, Wrexham

Penley Rainbow Centre is based in the village of Penley in South Wrexham.

The Rainbow Centre provides a myriad of daytime activities for older people and also encourages inter-generational activities.

Outline of our Intervention

The Centre had been working with the DCW Regional Coordinator Kevin Roberts during Communities 2.0 and after he contacted the Centre it was clear that they still wished to engage with people digitally but had limited resources.

Since having the kit 40 people have benefited from using it. We hope to increase that next year with 40 – 60 individuals gaining access to the digital kit.

Centre manager Geraldine Vaughan

DCW provided a Digital Improvement Plan that outlined areas in which the Centre could improve its digital engagement.

DCW also provided loan equipment that included a laptop computer and accessible keyboard/mouse so that they could also engage with people who might have mobility issues when it comes to using digital equipment.

DCW offered free training to the Centre but at this stage and due to other funding restraints the Centre has not taken up this opportunity until it knows where it lies staff-wise.

Impact of our Intervention

Penley Rainbow Centre has now become more adept at engaging with individuals and has more of a strategic outlook towards digital engagement. It is seeking funding and in this has had a comprehensive list of funding opportunities provided by DCW.
