North Denbighshire Communities First

North Denbighshire Communities First supports residents and local groups across the local cluster area in Rhyl and Upper Denbigh.

The team works to inform, involve, engage and empower the local community, through healthier lifestyles, learning opportunities, reducing barriers to work and providing support with money management

How We Helped

Digital Communities Wales (DCW) is providing support on four fronts to North Denbighshire Communities First (NDCF), through development of a digital inclusion strategy, introducing the organisation to a local digital inclusion partnership, providing IT kit and by training frontline staff and volunteers.

Receiving the digital inclusion kit consisting of laptops and tablets has allowed us to engage with more people within the community.

Only last week we met with some school pupils living on a local estate who didn’t have access to computers to do their homework on.

We were able to respond to their need by bringing the digital inclusion devices with us on our Community Information Bus.

Gavin Roberts, Learning Lead Officer, North Denbighshire Communities First

DCW is working with NDCF to develop a digital inclusion strategy document, by providing a template document and support to implement this process.

In terms of a local partnership, DCW is helping NDCF to make links with other local agencies who can work together, to support community members with digital inclusion. DCW has provided NDCF with two laptops, two tablets and a mi-fi unit to increase its capacity to deliver digital inclusion sessions throughout the CF cluster area.

The CF team currently runs approximately 30 sessions a month in the community. The sessions include a wide range of activities for computer beginners, those attending job clubs and people who need basic computer skills. Two-day accredited Digital Champion training has been provided by DCW to NDCF’s staff members, an IT volunteer from the Learning department, and two staff members working on the Communities 4 Work scheme.

The training was provided so that personnel had more confidence to support others digitally – whether this be in job clubs, helping them to set up email accounts, or even when promoting their own social media pages.
