Digital Heroes Being Heroic

Who are we?

Digital Communities Wales is a Welsh Government project, delivered by the Wales Co-operative Centre, that is helping people to do more online. We support organisations to help their staff, volunteers, customers and service users to get the most out of the internet.

Why are we involved with the Welsh Bacc?

We wanted to develop opportunities for pupils and students who were interested in helping other people to get online, using their own skills and interests in the process. We have created an initiative called Digital Heroes, where young people volunteer to support older people who are falling further behind, as technology continues to expand into our lives.

How does it work?

Every Welsh Bacc student who gets involved in our challenge will be trained to become a Digital Hero and receive our badge.

Digital Heroes Being Heroic

We believe our community challenge is a great way for those undertaking the KS4 and Advanced Qualification to develop and deliver activities in their community. We would love to create a nation of Digital Heroes, all helping others to use the internet to improve their lives in a positive way.

Everything you need

We have developed a series of materials for teachers and students to use, including session plans, logs and assessment forms, to make the process of developing and delivering the challenge that bit easier.

Success story

Staff and students of Coleg Gwent were among the first become to Digital Heroes, and support people to get online, through their Welsh Bacc work. Watch the above video and read our case study to find out more.
